B' Mitzvah Honors Form

B' MITZVAH INFORMATION

TORAH SERVICE HONORS
At Beth El there are a plethora of ways in which to honor your family and friends during the B’ Mitzvah service. Aliyot to the Torah, dressing the Torah, opening and closing the ark, and carrying the Torah are all available for those family members who are Jewish. There are also options to participate for family and friends of another faith background. For more information on those options, reach out to Rabbi Julie Schwarzwald at jschwarzwald@bethelsynagogue.org. Please note, those receiving honors must be post B' Mitzvah age or older. Gelilah (dressing the Torah) is the only exception to that rule.

We offer B’ Mitzvah families three aliyot, in addition to their child’s aliyah. In the event that you have more people to honor, we are able to give you one additional aliyah (if you are having a double B' Mitzvah and would like more aliyot made available, please contact Rabbi Julie Schwarzwald at jschwarzwald@bethelsynagogue.org). Typically, the 1st aliyah is given to the grandparents, the 2nd aliyah is given to the aunts and uncles or friends, and the 7th aliyah is for the parents. This order can be changed and adjusted as needed. Please write the information for that aliyah in the box at the bottom of the form and we will add it to the Shabbat Sheet.

When providing the names for the aliyot, please give the English and Hebrew names of all those receiving aliyot. (Hebrew names are not required for aliyot with more than 4 people when we call them not individually but as a group.) You are welcome to transliterate Hebrew script to English letters. The complete Hebrew name includes the (1) individual’s name, (2)child of (ben/bat/mibeit), (3)followed by Hebrew first name(s) of parent(s). Example: (1)Shulamit (2)bat (3)Shlomo v’Sasha. In the case when only one parent is Jewish, you are welcome to substitute “mimishpachat/from the house of” in place of ben/bat/mibeit. For example, (1) Shulamit (2) mimishpachat (3) Goldstein.

If you have any questions about any of the honors or aliyot, please contact Rabbi Julie Schwarzwald at jschwarzwald@bethelsynagogue.org or 952-873-7316.
